History of the Inverness Seventh-day Adventist Church
The Inverness Seventh-day Adventist church has it's origin in the KnockPatrick Seventh-day Adventist Church. In 1986,Sisters L.Spence,G.wray,E.Bramwell and F.Powell started a branch sabbath school. The Late Bro Leonard Powell built a shed with bamboo seats on a spot of land which Sis. Wilson permitted us to use. He assisted greatly by gathering over 30 Children and adults for worship.
Shortly after,Elder L.Letts, Lay Activities Leaders, Elder M.Gordon and Sis D.Williams conducted an open-air meeting at the late Mr. D.Williams' shop, that was well attended.Soon after the proprietor of the other shop along the road requested a meeting at hr shop. This was followed by an invitation from a third shop keeper,Miss Wilson who offered us a spot of land on which a shelter was built for a series of meetings.
Elder E.Spence then conducted a three weeks crusade, culminating with a fourth week by Pastor Kenny Malcolm, which resulted in ten souls been baptized. Bro Joshua Powell and his wife assisted tremendously in this crusade. The Spot on which the church now sits was offered to us by Sis Wilson and her sister.Elders M.Gordon and D.Dixon did the construction.Other members volunteered their services. Sisters D.Williams and L.Small Prepared sumptuous meals from Sister Wilson's Kitchen, for the workmen, soon after the construction was completed.
Brothers Scott and Thompson, ministerial students later conducted series.Their Wives Played a significant role in assisting the group after the crusades.Pastor E.Smith later conducted a series of meetings under a large tent which was pitched on the nearby playfield, thus the membership grew to 40.Pastor C.Bylthe also held a crusade which added more members to the fold. L.Green, R.Barrett, L.Brett, R.Clarke, and D.Dempster also served as the first set of Elders. The group was officially organized into a company on April 18, 1998. All We can say To God be the Glory great things he hath done.
